There are a plethora of marketing magazines out there. Some totally bin worthy.
I have picked out the best ones for you (as a marketer, designer, and anyone else), so you can be sure you are looking at a magazine that has good content and good design.
So let’s get to it!
Entrepreneur Magazine is an American publication and is a magazine heavily entrenched in business roots. But the business and marketing paths cross as frequently as you unlock your phone.
It has dedicated topic sections from technology to social media or marketing to finance. Publishing 10 issues annually creates well of information and inspiration is apparently endless. Showing also how much these seemingly different worlds cross paths in creating a successful business.
So while you may be a marketer, having a basic understanding of these many other facets of business is only going to help you on the way. Which is why the Entrepreneur Magazine is a great magazine to pick up and read.
Articles and features ranging from big business, celebrities all the way to startups amplifies the fact the magazine is for everyone. And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to read about Shaq becoming Papa Johns brand ambassador.

Best For: Good for a wealth of overlapping information
Stuff Magazine is one of my favourite publications out there. Although not a marketing magazine by any means it does have some sneaky upside.
With the mass of technology on offer in the magazine there is bound to be something for everyone.
For a designer like myself, it’s great seeing how design in the tech industry looks. And for marketers it can be useful to keep up with technology, seeing how you can use and implement this technology in your working life could be key to making that next step.
Published monthly the magazine is stuffed with technological insights. Although sometimes they can get off track for marketers but understanding who is buying what when it comes to tech can really help with marketing campaigns and techniques
Stuff Magazine classes itself as the holy grail of the tech magazines but it can appeal to much more than just tech-heads. From business entrepreneurs to marketing managers tech is only becoming a bigger part of everyone’s life, no matter what job you do.
Best For: Technology, innovation, electronics, reviews
Being a designer I tend to hone in on the more creative side of marketing rather than the business side. This is where Campaign Magazine comes in.
Campaign magazine is a hub of all the best creative campaigns and news out there. It can serve as great inspiration and research for any marketer.
Articles featuring Lynx’s new advertising campaign to Vizeum naming Mike McCoy as UK chief executive show the wide range of articles that can be found in the magazine. Allowing any marketing to get a wide range of information from plenty of points.

The Applied Arts magazine is all about creative advice, insight and inspiration. It captures the current visual arts landscape. Even though this may not be completely focused on marketing, this is a good place for creative inspiration for your marketing needs.
Applied Arts have sections for entries, winners of the entries, inspiration, creative futures and advertising. Applied Arts have been around size 1986 and has regular updates on their website.
It has information from niche chocolate brands, branding all the way to technology and don’t forget about the creative inspiration information.

What this means is whether you are a marketer or a designer, you will get to see current up to date work that’s trending and how brands are presented.
It’s also nice to come across a different topic. I mentioned before this magazine has information on technology. You will get to see how big companies (Samsung) setup modern workplaces (inspiration for your next workspace project).

Let’s take a look at a couple of articles
This is a nice short read that contains a cheat sheet to creating content your audience wants to see. It even has a nice download link so you can even use it when you’re offline.
In short, this article will give you insight on:
- Building an ecosystem
- Be purposeful when naming your agency
- Prepare your employees, and your agency partners, for change
- Clarify the agency’s mission

Because I’m a designer, I like to see other areas bar marketing. I like to look at the visual stuff, as you already know.
There are some super good areas in design and that have a purposeful meaning. An interesting article from Adweek – Scientists encoded a trove of video game tips into DNA, then mixed it into an energy drink. This article features the product image that captures the brand and “DNA”.
So even if you’re not a marketer, you will still find something that will appeal to you in this magazine.

Fast Company is an American business magazine that focuses on technology, business and design and publishes eight prints per annum.
This magazine has plenty of subsection per parent section and as a designer, I like to gravitate toward the creativity section.
But remember, as a marketer, it’s good to see creative work to get inspiration for your marketing campaigns. As we found out before, marketing starts and ends with packaging design. It isn’t just design.
Some of the articles that are currently present at first glance include why HubSpot is introducing a free email marketing service, the first consumers are getting Apple’s credit card today and this agency helped boost Harry’s and Sweetgreen. Now it’s ditching advertising to make brands of its own.
Each section has a good amount of relevant posts, so whether you’re a designer or marketer there’ll be something for you.

The Drum is a UK based magazine and focuses on branding, agency, creative, digital and Media.
It also has areas for interviews, opinions, awards and news about the Drum network itself.
As a designer, I like to go to the awards section. This is where people can showcase their work, this is good material for inspiration. On top of this, it has a neat creative section where creative work is presented and can be given a rating out of five stars.
From a marketers perspective, the Drum magazine is good if you want to see what other business/people are submitting to the awards section. This is because it has submissions for:
- Agency Business
- Digital Advertising
- Social Media
Looking at some of the winners from the digital advertising section.
These include the likes of the Grand Prix, Media agency of the year (Winmo) and the best digital advertising team (programmatic).

Forbes magazine is a highly popular, if not ubiquitous magazine and is worthy of a mention. It focuses on business and features finance, industry, investing and marketing topics. It also has reports on various other topics ranging from technology to politics. It publishes on a bi-weekly basis.
