Exit Five

Hosted by Dave Gerhardt

Exit Five is my new favourite business podcast. It’s hosted by former CMO of Drift, and author of Founder Brand, Dave Gerhardt.

Exit Five is a community for marketers in B2B. And the podcast is a belter.

Dave mixes up his guests. Some are from within the community, some are notable names in the marketing world.

All of them bring huge amounts of value covering;

  • Content marketing
  • Conversion rate optimisation
  • Cold outreach
  • And everything else marketing related!

From a marketing podcast perspective, you don’t get better than Exit Five.

The Garyvee Audio Experience Podcast Artwork on background

The GaryVee Audio Experience

Hosted by Gary Vee

Gary Vaynerchuk has essentially become the Michael Jordan (or Lebron) of the business world.

From daily vlogs on YouTube, to constant social media content, and keynote speeches, Gary Vee delivers great content on all fronts.

But his podcast is one of my favourite ways to consume his content.

It’s called “The GaryVee Audio Experience”, which is a great name, considering it’s a mixed bag of content.

Sometimes, it’s the audio from one of his keynote speeches. The next time it’ll be a rant about something that’s getting on his nerves. The next, an interview.

And so on. It’s wildly unpredictable.

If you’re at all interested in business, social media, motivation, and dare I say it, “hustle”, then Gary Vee’s podcast is for you.

Be warned though, he does get a little bit sweary.

Standout Podcast Episode

Every episode is totally different, but the 4D episodes are particularly great.

Smart Passive Income Podcast Artwork on background

Smart Passive Income

Hosted by Pat Flynn

Smart Passive Income is both a website and podcast by massive Back to the Future fan, Pat Flynn.

Former architect turned online entrepreneur, Pat’s mantra was “I’m the crash test dummy of online business.” He tests out various business ideas, reporting his findings on his podcast and blog.

The show features interviews with a wide range of guests who share unique stories and insights on creating passive income (if there’s really such a thing), as well as a range of business and marketing topics.

From auditing your blog content, to how email drip sequences work, to how to grow your business, the Smart Passive Income podcast has it all.

Youpreneur

Hosted by Chris Ducker

From Pat Flynn, to his best mate, and my fellow Brit, Chris Ducker.

Formerly known as the New Business Podcast, now known as the Youpreneur podcast, Chris runs an interview show with guests from all over the world.

The Youpreneur podcast focuses on a range of great business topics. From personal and business branding, through to scaling your business while making sure you don’t burn out.

Chris does tend to focus on the personal element of business. It’s all about You, and Your Brand. Which is why everything is called Youpreneuer.

But the value he shares can be taken and applied to your business too!

The Tim Ferriss Show Podcast Artwork on background

The Tim Ferriss Show

Hosted by Tim Ferriss

Tim Ferriss is the author of one of the top selling business, self care, and marketing books in the last 10 years, The Four Hour Workweek.

With more than 1,350,000 copies sold worldwide, I don’t need to stress the influence that Tim has in the business space.

After the success of his book, Tim moved into the podcast space with The Tim Ferriss Show. His podcast releases almost weekly.

Whereas the other podcasts on this list focus mainly on the business space, Tim not only interviews business people, he takes guests from outside the business world and interviews them too.

Among others, Tim has interviewed:

  • Tony Robbins
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Jamie Foxx
  • Amanda Palmer
  • and Noah Kagan

If you want to hear unique stories from around the world, then this is the podcast for you.

Entrepreneurs On Fire Podcast Artwork on background

Entrepreneurs on Fire

Hosted by John Lee Dumas

John Lee Dumas is the founder and host of entrepreneurial focused podcast, Entrepreneurs on Fire.

Nearly everyone mentioned on this list has featured at one time or another on John’s podcast.

It’s one of the most well known podcasts in the business world.

What John does differently is that he releases a new episode every few days. And he’s been doing it for years!

Not only does he get “top level” industry guests like GaryVee and Tony Robbins, but he also talks to smaller entrepreneurs doing well for themselves.

John has a great unique style of interviewing people and bringing their stories to life.

He talks about everything from income generation to marketing funnels to public speaking.

If you have even a fleeting interest in business, personal branding, or transforming your life, then you’ll find a lot of value in joining the Fire Nation.

Business Wars Podcast Artwork on background

Business Wars

Hosted by David Brown (Wondery)

Business Wars is a different type of podcast altogether.

Most of the podcasts up until now have been entrepreneurs and business people, interviewing other successful entrepreneurs and business people.

Business Wars is completely different. This podcast tells the story of businesses that went head to head.

So far, Business Wars has highlighted the conflict between:

  • Xbox vs Playstation
  • Netflix vs Blockbuster
  • Coke vs Pepsi
  • eBay vs Paypal
  • Ford vs Chevrolet
  • Nike vs Adidas
  • and more…

This is how they describe the podcast themselves:

Business is war. Sometimes the prize is your wallet, or your attention. Sometimes, it’s just the fun of beating the other guy. The outcome of these battles shapes what we buy and how we live. Business Wars gives you the unauthorized, real story of what drives these companies and their leaders, inventors, investors and executives to new heights — or to ruin.

This podcast is truly innovative in its storytelling approach. Business Wars reveals some great facts and details behind some of the biggest business conflicts in the World.

If you’re looking for a story based podcast that fills a short commute and leaves you wishing the journey was longer, then Business Wars is for you.

Standout Podcast Episode

With stories spanning up to 10 episodes, it’s hard to pick a standout episode, however, the Netflix vs Blockbuster episodes are particularly great.

Foundr Podcast Artwork on background

Foundr

Hosted by Nathan Chan

I first heard about Nathan Chan when he was a guest on Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income Podcast.

Nathan was talking about marketing strategies for his digital magazine, Foundr.

After listening to that podcast, I started to follow his journey and began reading Foundr. And because of that, the podcast found its way into my playlist.

What I love about the Foundr podcast is that it lives up to its tagline:

“Not your average entrepreneurship podcast.”

Nathan takes the conversation in unique directions and has a diverse range of guests rather than the same old same old.

Sure, he’s had big names like Gary Vaynerchuk, Pat Flynn, and Chris Ducker. But the episodes that really stand out are the ones where he interviews people you don’t often hear on other podcasts.

The diversity and range of topics make each episode of the Foundr podcast worth listening to. If you’re looking for fresh perspectives and insights, Nathan Chan’s podcast is a must-listen.

Marketing School Podcast Artwork on background

Marketing School

Hosted by Neil Patel and Eric Siu

Neil Patel is a controversial figure in the online marketing world.

To some, he’s the biggest crook since Feather McGraw (yes, that’s a Wallace and Gromit reference.) To others, he’s the best thing since sliced bread.

For a long time, I followed his content. I started reading Quicksprout back when it launched. Back then, it was practical, tactical, and relevant.

Eventually he got together with Eric Siu to form the Marketing School podcast. It’s a great podcast, always packed full of ideas.

Every business day, they take a new topic or user submitted question and dive into the topic.

They tend to stick to discussions surrounding branding, website design, and digital marketing, which is the sweet spot for me. It’s 5-10 minutes a day that I never want to miss.

Because of the huge amount of changing and varying advice in the business marketing space, it’s hard to pick an episode that will stay relevant for a long time.

So I’m picking their first episode…

Where to Learn Marketing

How I Built This Podcast Artwork on background

How I Built This

Hosted by Guy Raz

I’ll keep this one short and sweet:

How I Built This is fantastic.

Described by The New York Times as “one of the most popular podcasters in history” – Guy Raz is a great host, and he always gets the best guests.

From the stories behind consumer brands like Spanx, Chipotle, and Liquid Death, to websites like Lonely Planet, AirBnb, and Etsy, How I Built This runs the gamut of business life.

If you’re looking to be motivated by great entrepreneurs, learn how to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, or how the best took it from zero to millions, then listen to this podcast.

The Diary of a CEO Podcast Artwork on background

The Diary of a CEO

Hosted by Steven Bartlett

Steven Bartlett is polarising.

From unfounded claims about his success, to interviewing controversial conspiracy theorists and crazy doctors, he’s come up against some criticism.

But, when he’s actually interviewing credible people, his podcast is actually quite good.

He has access to some great guests, and has a way of connecting with them that really gets them to open up.

He’s hosted Simon Cowell, Simon Sinek, Simple Simon, and many other famous Simons.

Seriously though, he has interviewed some of the top business people in the world. So if you can navigate around the conspiracy theories and questionable medical advice, then it’s worth a listen.

This podcast is a unique look at the thought process and motivation of the Chief Marketing Officer.

Through personal and revealing discussions, Jim and his guests paint a picture of this demanding position that very few understand, yet affects the entire consumer experience.

Truly a great listen that really gives insight into some of the biggest brands in the world.

How to Win Podcast Artwork on background

How to Win

Hosted by Peep Laja

Peep Laja, the podcast host of How to Win, is the founder of Wynter, an outstanding message testing platform. In the past, he also founded Speero and CXL.

But How to Win doesn’t just look at brand messaging. Sure, it comes up a lot. But it’s not the sole focus of the podcast.

Sometimes Peep interviews people. Sometimes he delivers a monologue.

No matter what though, you’re getting podcast episodes packed full of actionable marketing ideas.

A Change of Brand Podcast Artwork on background

A Change of Brand

Hosted by Blake Howard and Tracy Clark

A Change of Brand is a podcast produced by Matchstic all about famous company rebrands.

In their own words:

A Change of Brand is a podcast about the world’s most loved consumer companies and their rebrand glory, drama, or disaster.

They talk with brand leaders and their agency creatives, retelling the story behind their change.

Going beyond colour palettes and typography, A Change of Brand uncover the creative process and approach to change management throughout a rebranding project.

If you’re a design and brand nerd, then this one’s for you. Check out more inspiration in our branding resources post!

A quick note:

A Change of Brand follows a more traditional media model, releasing seasonally rather than weekly. While the number of episodes is limited, the anticipation for a new season is always worth the wait.
