Dubai, UAE
It’s no secret that Dubai’s branding exudes luxury. The city is one of the most futuristic-looking places in the world.
If you’re thinking of treating yourself and splashing out on a luxury holiday experience, you’ll probably have Dubai up there on your list of options. It’s also an excellent example of city branding as it uses its unique elements to attract tourists and promote the extravagant feel of the place.
The city is known for its skyscrapers, high-end shopping, man-made islands and top restaurants. It represents all things extravagant and it’s a popular destination amongst celebrities and A-listers. Not to mention the TikTokers of the world!
It’s the land of supercars and premium vehicles too, making it also a place for car enthusiasts. It just has it all.
Furthermore, Emirates is Dubai’s national airline, which in its own right, has become an experience in itself. With such good airport branding, this airline is known for the high-class experience it offers through attentive staff, comfortable seating, and luxurious benefits.
The website states:
Fly Better with Emirates for more comfort, delicious cuisine and award-winning entertainment.
Highlighting the quality of the service you’ll receive, it alludes to the fact that the flight to Dubai alone will amaze you. Your experience of first-class treatment starts before you even enter the city! This taps into the desires of high-net-worth travellers.
Dubai’s branding strategy is laced with the concept of “extreme luxury”. It’s clear that every element, from high-end shopping malls to grand hotels, is designed to create an emotional connection with visitors who want a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This strategy not only attracts tourists but also enhances Dubai’s reputation as a global luxury destination.
Dubai is also home to the largest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa, and the world’s largest shopping centre, The Dubai Mall.
Go big or go home seems to be the idea here!
This represents the city’s ambition, architectural power and the unlimited possibility it has to offer.
Dubai was once a fishing village, but destination branding has transformed the city’s reputation and put it on the map as a must-see location.
Jumeirah, Emaar Hospitality and Atlantis are all hotel brands that are looking to appeal to global luxury travellers. These lavish hotel brands are venturing out to the US and China, and potentially the UK, Russia, and Germany.
Offering what’s called the “Dubai Experience”, these luxury hotels are linked to Dubai and the high-class experience and service the city offers.
Atlantis The Royal Hotel brands itself as “the most ultra-luxury experiential resort in the world.” With stays starting from £350 a night, the hotel is well-known all over the world and is a lot more interesting than a Travelodge.
With its own waterpark, golf course, spa, and more, it promises fun for all the family. Not to mention, high-end dining and top-class treatment.
The architecture in Dubai is worth a mention. It’s nothing short of breathtaking. It looks like something that’s been taken out of a film set 100 years into the future. This showcases Dubai’s aspiration, creativity and forward-thinking mindset.
The interesting architecture and the focus on luxury shopping and high-end experiences, positions it as a place that can offer the feeling of exclusivity and lively nightlife scene.
For both business and leisure, Dubai has got it all. It appeals to tourists looking to live in the lap of luxury or professionals seeking inspiration.

Las Vegas, USA
Viva Las Vegas. Enough said!
Las Vegas’s branding is elite. It has strategically branded itself as the entertainment capital of the world. Offering casinos, shows, lavish hotels and incredible nightlife, it has well and truly marketed itself as the place to go for a good time.
“Sin City” speaks for itself. This name positions Las Vegas as a place of indulgence and high-stakes gambling. It’s also renowned for flashing lights and glitz and glamour.
I’ve been, and it feels more like Blackpool in the sun. But their destination branding had me believe otherwise.
The 1964 movie with Elvis Presley, “Viva Las Vegas” was a turning point for the city. Presley and Ann-Margaret starred in the film, which showed them flirting, laughing and soaking up the city’s energy as they took part in singing and dancing shows. This solidified the city’s image and showcased it as an experience in itself.
The 2009 movie The Hangover also summarises Las Vegas in film form. They dive right into the lifestyle, from the drinking to the gambling, and of course, the chaos that follows. It’s the Vegas effect!
The use of slogans like “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” reinforces the city’s image as a place where traditional social norms are left behind. This alludes to the fact that visitors are allowed to engage in behaviours they might avoid elsewhere, adding a layer of thrill.
This sums up the destination branding. It suggests that Vegas is a place of escapism and fun. People visiting feel they can live out their wildest dreams and fantasies, all while in the bubble of the Vegas lifestyle away from reality.
This branding effectively creates a psychological “bubble” around Las Vegas, encouraging tourists to immerse themselves fully in the city’s unique blend of extravagance and freedom.
Alongside the lively atmosphere, Las Vegas is also known for its high-end dining options and luxury shopping, attracting yet another type of clientele.
Las Vegas has a strong identity as a place of indulgence and extravagance, and the entire experience of the city is built around excitement.

Tuscany, Italy
Tuscany’s destination branding draws on world-renowned culinary experiences and rich culture.
Toscana Promozione Turistica is the regional government agency responsible for promoting tourism in the area. Their goal is to showcase Tuscany as a place full of culture and beautiful scenery. And it works!
FutureBrand is a brand transformation company based in London that focuses on helping brands tell their stories. Tuscany was one of their clients!
Their campaign draws on the rich history of Tuscany, and the Renaissance is a theme that follows throughout. “Never-Ending Renaissance” is the tagline, referring to Tuscany’s link to the past and present.
Renaissance, which means rebirth in French, suggests Tuscany is aiming to connect to the past and the country’s rich culture and heritage, as well as look forward to the future.
The campaign uses professional imagery throughout, showing amazing scenery as the backdrop. Billboards with cyclists looking over at a deep blue sea and the golden and green countryside present Tuscany as a place of natural beauty. The colour palette symbolises what the region has to offer, evoking feelings of serenity.
FutureBrand created a video to present the branding and Tuscany’s incredible landscapes. It’s enough to make me want to book a flight. From someone walking through the countryside to the charming streets full of history, it positions itself as an idyllic place with timeless beauty and appeal.
On the Visit Tuscany website the language used portrays the destination as one full of enchantment. “Daydreaming Tuscany” refers to the captivating feel of the place.
The website states:
Gift yourself Tuscany as the setting of your wedding, let yourself be seduced by a sunset on the hills while red wine caresses your senses, spoil yourself with a warm embrace of thermal water or with a fashionable garment to pack in your suitcase, along with your memories.
They’re living the “lover” brand archetype.
The campaign’s use of language, such as ‘Daydreaming Tuscany,’ plays on emotional desires for traditional charm and serenity, appealing to those who want to immerse themselves in an idealised version of Italian culture.
This quotation evokes a sense of luxury and romance, especially due to the mention of weddings. It creates an image of indulgence, intimacy, and a dreamlike setting. It signifies to tourists that Tuscany is more than just a destination, but a place to spoil yourself and create enchanting memories.

Iceland
Iceland presents itself as a destination where wellness dominates. There is a striking and alluring narrative surrounding Iceland, and the Visit Iceland tourism website speaks volumes.
“Wellness in Iceland” is the first thing you see, and you’re instantly faced with images of nature and spectacular landscapes.
Iceland is known as the “Land of Fire and Ice”. This touches on its natural and untouched beauty. Glaciers and volcanoes coexist there, which is a rare and captivating concept.
It’s even quite hard to imagine!
Iceland makes the most of this unique element, and the country’s natural world is used to its advantage. This juxtaposition creates a sense of excitement and creates a backdrop of dynamic natural features that Iceland is so well known for.
Adventure tourism is greatly pushed too, and there’s even an Icelandic Pledge that tourists are encouraged to take.
Some things included in the Pledge are:
- “When I explore new places, I will leave them as I found them”
- “I will take photos to die for, without dying for them”
- “I will follow the road into the unknown, but never venture off the road”
- “I will only park where I am supposed to”
This pledge represents Iceland’s commitment to its beautiful country and the respect it hopes to receive from tourists. It promotes safety, adventure, and environmental conservation through sustainable branding.
Iceland is also using nation branding to position itself as a country that accepts tourists with open arms. But within reason. This creates an image that Iceland as a nation takes pride in its landscapes and wants others to enjoy it respectfully.
By promoting this responsible behaviour, Iceland comes across as a place that’s dedicated to preserving its natural resources.
However, it also presents the country’s encouragement to explore, creating a sense of adventure. The site has a carbon footprint calculator to help tourists see how their trip will impact the environment. So, even if you don’t alter anything, it’s on your radar!
With the extensive list of “things to do”, Iceland comes across as a place that offers amazing adventures for anyone looking for exploration. Every activity is just as exhilarating as the last, and it’s definitely aimed towards the explorers of the world!
The iconic (yet man made) Blue Lagoon is an experience that connects people with nature as they soak in the natural surroundings and a one-of-a-kind experience. Iceland is also positioning itself as being the best destination to see the 2026 total solar eclipse, promoting its pollution free skies and incredible surrounding natural attractions.
Offering adventure and a close connection to nature, Iceland comes across as a destination packed with adventure and natural wonders. The imagery is breathtaking on the tourism website and it’s enticing from the get-go.
