Do you like doughnuts and burgers?

Do you often visit Krispy Kreme and McDonalds?

What if you found out you could now get both from the same location.

I’m of course talking about the very sweet brand collaboration between these two household names.

That said, it’s not a totally new thing as the partnership first launched in 2022 when McDonalds added Krispy Kreme doughnuts to the menu at Louisville, Kentucky locations.

However unless you happened to be in Kentucky, you were going to miss out as they hadn’t expanded the idea anywhere else.

Until now.

Sweet Expansion: Krispy Kreme Meets McDonald’s Nationwide

With the expanded roll out, Krispy Kreme will deliver 3 doughnuts fresh each morning to McDonald’s restaurants, as part of its Delivered Fresh Daily program.

Now that’s one of the things I really like about this, and one of the reasons why the doughnut chain is so popular as the circular shaped goodies will be made and delivered fresh on the day they are being sold.

Naturally this does lead to some logistical issues, particularly when it’s rolled out nationwide as they need to make sure they have enough staff and supplies to meet demand.

That’s why it’s a phased roll out starting with a handful of McDonald’s locations with the goal of having them available nationwide by the end of 2026.

So if you’re fancying a glazed ring after your Big Mac, it’s going to be two stop-offs for the time being I’m afraid!

Choice is on the Menu

The key question is: what delicious doughnuts are we going to be able to get our hands on?

Krispy Kreme has a whole range of flavours when you go in store, but for this particular partnership, they’re going to offer 3 of their most popular flavours.

These are original glazed flavour, chocolate iced with sprinkles, and cream-filled flavours. Customers will be able to either buy them individually or in a pack of 6 until they are sold out.

Corporate Optimism: Executives Weigh in on the Partnership

Krispy Kreme President and CEO, Josh Charlesworth, had this to say in a company release:

By making Kreme Krispy accessible to fans nationwide through this partnership, we expect to more than double our points of access by the end of 2026. The partnership accelerates the development of our existing Delivered Fresh Daily channel, creating operating leverage through distribution density and production utilisation.

It’s believed the partnership will be very well received as the original pilot run across Louisville Kentucky areas “exceeded” expectations from both McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme according to Charlesworth.

The collaboration comes at a crucial point for McDonald’s, which experienced a dip in business during the fourth quarter of 2023. Despite this, its U.S. sales grew by 4.3% quarterly, slightly below the forecasted 4.4% rise.

As of Tuesday afternoon, McDonald’s had seen a modest annual increase of just over 1.7%, whereas Krispy Kreme’s value surged by more than 28% within a 24-hour timeframe subsequent to the partnership announcement.

To celebrate the launch, Krispy Kreme held a flash giveaway on March 26, where customers could visit their local store and pick up a free original glazed doughnut between the hours of 5 and 9 pm.

For me this brand partnership is a simple no brainer.

Take two huge brands, and leverage the customer base of each, allowing both brands to enjoy access to more customers while customers enjoy access to a sweet treat after their savoury snack.
