Whether you’re working remotely, starting a business, or making some last minute changes to a major presentation, Houston coffee shops offer the perfect locale.
Houston, like any major city in Texas, has a plethora of coffee shops to pick and choose from. By our count, there are over 50 locations, which can make finding the perfect spot somewhat difficult.
After all, many claim to be one of the ‘best coffee shops in Houston,’ but how many actually live up to that title?
Sure, these coffee stops look the part on social media, but being there in person is another thing entirely. To us, the best Houston coffee shops are those that nail everything, from the taste of the coffee, to the quality of the wifi.
We’ve narrowed the best Houston coffee shops down to a list of 14. Some of these locations you might have visited before, others you’ll be hearing about for the very first time.
Now, let’s get into it.
Agora
Where: 1712 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77098
Opening times: 9am-2am Monday-Sunday
The first Houston coffee shop we’d like to draw your attention to is Agora, a Greek-themed establishment known for its gourmet coffee and its selection of imported ales/beers.
The outside of the building is incredibly distinct, as you can imagine. There’s the very Greek-like logo welcoming you in. And images of various celebrities painted on the walls outside.
Inside, you’ll find plenty of seating options spread out across two floors.
We should mention that this coffee shop is open till 2am daily. Meaning the atmosphere of the Agora does change as the day goes on.
Still, that doesn’t stop the Agora from offering a quality experience for those looking to work.
“Agora is not only a great cup of espresso coffee, but an aesthetic ambience worth daily/nightly visits,” is what it states on the website, which describes this Houston coffee shop perfectly.
If you’re in Houston and looking for somewhere to work, then you should definitely check out the Agora.
Antidote Coffee
Where: 729 Studewood St, Houston, TX 77007
Opening times: 6:30am-10pm Monday-Sunday
Antidote Coffee is one of those blink and you might miss it coffee shops in Houston. Although, the various coloured patio furniture outside do make it hard to miss.
Located on 729 Studewood St, this rustic coffee shop offers everything from pastries to its signature ‘Antidote’ drink. For those unfamiliar with this coffee spot, the ‘Antidote’ is Antidote Coffee’s namesake, a brewed coffee with a shot of espresso in there for good measure.
‘Quaint’ is the word we’d use to describe Antidote Coffee to anyone who’s never been here before. Like the Agora, Antidote Coffee also caters towards the beer and wine crowd, only with additional emphasis on community.
For example, every so often, Antidote will play host to a variety of events both inside and outside of the shop.
If a sense of community is a major motivator for you while you work, then there’s no greater spot than this.
Black Hole Coffee House
Where: 4504 Graustark St, Houston, TX 77006
Opening times: 6:30am-10pm Monday-Sunday
Need to get work done in a hurry and on weekends? Black Hole Coffee House is a very popular spot amongst remote workers and creatives alike.
The decor inside is very distinct, featuring various elements from the atomic age, complete with ambient lighting. It’s no wonder that this coffee house is so popular with locals, especially those looking for something a little off-kilter to go with their hot cup of jo.
It’s fitting that Black Hole is the next entry in our list, considering it’s the sister location of Antidote. That’s right, the two Houston coffee spots are linked, with the Black Hole offering something a lot more hip in comparison.
Black Hole Coffee House recently celebrated its 11th anniversary. Here’s hoping it sticks around for another decade.
An opinion shared by many, I’m sure.
BlendIn Coffee Club
Where: 8410 US-90 ALT Bldg B, Sugar Land, TX 77478
Opening times: 7am-5:30pm Monday-Sunday
Very few coffee shops can match just how stunning BlendIn Coffee Club is to look at and ultimately, work in.
A quick backstory on one of the best coffee shops in Houston:
Co-owner Weihong Zhang took his background in biochemistry and applied it to caffeine roasting and brewing. The result is espressos, lattes, teas and drip coffees that will change the way you think of drinks moving forward, guaranteed.
In terms of food, patrons can choose between a wide selection of seasonal pastries. The fact that they’re seasonal gives you the perfect excuse to keep coming back again and again.
Undecided on what to get in the drinks department? We’d recommend checking out the ‘Barista Signature,’ that being, ‘The Lift’ which is a cream soda made with oat milk and orgeat, topped with double shot espresso, house-made coconut whipped cream and cinnamon powder.
This one of many signature coffees available at BlendIn Coffee Club. You’ll need multiple work trips here to try them all.
And trust us, you’ll want to try them all!
Boomtown Coffee
Where: 800 Capitol St. Houston, TX 77002
Opening times: 7am-6pm Monday-Friday
It’s hard not to talk about the best Houston coffee shops to work in and not jump straight to Boomtown Coffee. Why that is comes down to just how relaxing the environment is at this locale.
That, and Boomtown roasts its own coffee in house.
On the menu you’ll find a range of classic coffees, custom concoctions and house lattes. Here’s a quick list of our personal favorites, for reference:
- Cold Brew
- Mayan Mocha
- Cortado
- The Ice Capp
Boomtown can be found on 242 W. 19th ST, opening everyday at 7am and closing at 7pm. Outside of offering some of the best coffee in all of Houston, Boomtown also has quite the food menu to contend with.
“It’s full of tacos and breakfasty things,” as they so eloquently put it. All of the classics are on here, from avocado on toast, to other things such as quince and parfait. There’s plenty of vegan and gluten free options too, for those wondering.
But yeah, you can’t work out in the open in Houston and not visit Boomtown Coffee at least once in your life.
Catalina Coffee
Where: 2201 Washington Ave Houston, Texas 77007
Opening times: 6:30am-7pm Monday-Friday
Not interested in hipster coffee joints? No problem. Our next entry should be to your liking.
Catalina Coffee, located on 2201 Washington Ave, is a cozy little spot that serves as the perfect change of scenery when getting outside to work.
That being said, Catalina Coffee does have limited space inside and very few outlets. So if you are going to come here to work, make sure you get in early to secure your spot.
On the notorious review site Yelp, Catalina Coffee is currently sitting on a four star rating. Which isn’t that bad when you consider this is out of over 700 reviews as of this writing.
We’ve gathered a couple to highlight the benefits of working in Catalina Coffee:
“Definitely 5 stars for being the best tasting coffee in Houston. The oat milk lavender latte was the best I’ve ever had in Houston!!”
“If you are catching up with friends or getting some quick work done, this is a good spot for you.”
“This is an awesome spot to get your morning started, I went ahead & ordered their cappuccino. Wow, it was strong, rich, creamy, foamy but not too much & it had a nice bitterness to it.”
FIX Coffeebar
Where: 415 Westheimer Rd, Houston, Texas 77006
Opening times: 6:30am-7pm Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm Saturday-Sunday
FIX Coffeebar is similar to Boomtown in that you have to work there at least to understand why it’s rated so highly. Sure, it’s not as futuristic to look at inside like Boomtown is, but what it lacks in hipster visuals, it certainly makes up for in heart.
A no nonsense environment to sit and work in. That’s exactly what you’re getting should you visit FIX Coffeebar to work in. The atmosphere isn’t too rowdy, the coffee tastes great (not too expensive either), and the service is top notch.
What’s not to love about any of that?
Most Houston coffee shops put little hearts in the foam. But FIX is one of those places that does it because they mean it. It’s not just a demonstration of skill, it’s way beyond that.
They care about you, and they care about the quality of what you’re buying. Which is all you can ever ask for when sitting down to spend hours getting down to some work.
In short, FIX Coffeebar is one of Montrose’s best kept secrets.
Giant Leap Coffee
Where: 1135 Uptown Park Blvd, Houston, TX 77056
Opening times: 7am-7pm Monday-Sunday
Out of all the best Houston coffee shops mentioned, none offer a view quite like this. Look at any photo from this coffee shop and you’ll know exactly what we’re getting at.
We’re of course referring to the views on offer at Giant Leap Coffee, a relatively new establishment found at Uptown Park. An establishment known for its stellar coffee, and exceptional logo.
Coffee aside, another thing we couldn’t help but notice was the quality of its website. The emphasis on space (i.e. planets, rockets and astronauts) are all fitting, considering how out of this world the coffee and experience of working inside actually is.
Trust us, once you’ve seen the logo for this coffee establishment once, you’ll begin to see it everywhere.
This is one of our favorite coffee spots in all of Houston. Do check it out at your earliest convenience.
Grinders Coffee Bar
Where: 5410 Kirby Dr Suite B, Houston, TX 77005
Opening times: 8am-9pm Monday-Sunday
‘Dedicated to quality,’ Grinders Coffee Bar is a perfect spot for grab and go coffee and lite bites that go down a treat.
The presentation of how food and coffee is arranged is so underrated. So it’s nice to see a coffee shop in Houston take such a proactive approach to it. Take a look at any Instagram image of someone at work in this establishment.
You’ll see.
The food available at Grinders Coffee Bar is a cut above many places you visit. Definitely grab a danish if you can, or a muffin, alongside your coffee. And if you’re not in the mood for caffeine, there’s always boxed water and orange juice!
What’s more, Grinders Coffee Bar doubles up as a CBD apothecary, selling a range of relaxing products that could appeal to someone who spends a lot of time working, and not enough time relaxing.
This won’t be for everyone, but the option is there if you are.
Juices, pastries and desserts, the kind that will keep you coming back for more. The Nook Cafe is on 4701 Calhoun St, which happens to be on the campus of the University of Houston.
You might think that it’s a students only type of establishment, but it’s really not. Patrons from all walks of life are welcome, as per the ‘community first’
Pura Coffee
Where: 7925 Katy Fwy Ste C, Houston, TX 77024
Opening times: 7am-5pm Monday-Friday, 8am-2pm Saturday-Sunday
Fresh pastries, a wide selection of drinks, and a place to work seven days out of seven. Also, the seating area is a great space for meetings, be it in person or online via your preferred communications tool.
On the menu you’ll find biscotti, kolches, croissants, danishes and cookies. And yes, there are vegan and gluten free options. Reviews for Pura Coffee highlight the blueberry danish as a top choice, especially when paired with a matcha blueberry drink.
If there’s one thing you need to know about Pura Coffee it’s this:
The macarons on offer here are unbelievable, and on par with the specialty coffees/teas available.
“Whether you are just quickly grabbing an exceptional cup of coffee or wanting to meet with friends or business associates, Pura Coffee is a great place to be at.”
– Pura Coffee
When working in a coffee shop in Houston, it’s important to treat yourself every now and then. And with plenty of treats on the menu, it’s hard not to spend every waking day at Pura Coffee for exactly that.
Treats upon treats.
Siphon Coffee
Where: 701 W Alabama St, Houston, TX 77006
Opening times: 7am-10pm Monday-Friday, 8am-10pm Saturday-Sunday
Siphon Coffee works with both local and national roasters to create a fine selection of brewed and espresso-based beverages to please any palate. Their unique Siphon method utilizing halogen burners leads to an unbelievably rich taste that is sure to delight the senses as you’re on the grind.
What we, and other professionals who have visited this Houston coffee house, like is the very laid back style of this establishment. Everything from the low-down wooden chairs to the abstract art on the walls.
It’s all there to set the tone, and create an environment you can relax in.
Another thing to admire/like about Siphon Coffee is its approach to food. The ingredients used are quality, not to mention locally sourced. For example, all of the eggs used come from hens raised on pasture in Texas at Vital Farms.
Come see why Siphon Coffee is hailed by many as being one of Houston’s finest coffee establishments.
Southside Espresso
Where: 904 Westheimer Rd., Suite C Houston, Tx 77006
Opening times: 7am-4pm Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm Saturday-Sunday
Established in 2012, Southside Espresso is a cozy coffeehouse and wine bar found in the heart of the Montrose area in Houston, Texas.
They, thanks to their local sister company in Fusion Beans Coffee Roastery, serve only the best selection of drinks. Which was always to be expected given the quality of Houston’s local roasters.
Seriously, does anyone roast them better?
Owner/roastmaster Sean Marshall, opened Southside Espresso following years honing his coffee craft with the aforementioned Fusion Beans company. As Fusion Beans grew, Sean started developing direct relationships with the farmers he sourced his coffee from.
It’s this experience that fuels Southside Espresso. It’s also the reason why the coffee tastes so great and the memories of working at this spot last a lot longer!
ThroughGood Coffee
Where: 904 Westheimer Rd., Suite C Houston, Tx 77006
Opening times: 7:30am-4pm Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm Saturday-Sunday
‘Do good through good coffee’ is the tagline for ThroughGood Coffee, and what a great tagline it is when you begin to understand where they’re coming from, and what makes them so different.
You see, the building that houses ThroughGood has been around for many years – all the way back to the 1930s, to be specific. Originally built as a daycare center for economically disadvantaged families, the building has “always been a place of inspiration, innovation and love.”
Today, the ThroughGood team is made up of coffee experts, artists, social workers, musicians, writers, bakers, chefs, scholars and craftsperon’s that all share the same goal:
To create a lasting experience that emphasizes quality of craft and people.
We find that some of the best Houston coffee spots are those you can relate to, or appreciate on a greater level. And there’s nothing more motivating than feeling inspired, which also applies to the coffee shops you work in.
The Tipping Point Coffee
Where: 214 Travis St, Houston, TX 77002
Opening times: 7am-6pm Tuesday-Sunday
Last but by no means least, we have one of the more modern-looking coffee establishments in Houston. Modern in a good way too, by the way.
This place is great for a number of reasons. The first thing you’ll notice is how minimalistic the approach is to what it looks like inside. There’s exposed brick walls, various shrubbery dotted about the place, and furniture that looks like it was lifted from a high-class apartment.
The result is one of Houston’s best-looking coffee spots. For a preview, be sure to check out The Tipping Point Coffee on Instagram. They have a lot of images of the interior and exterior. Plus, there’s a lot of images of food and coffee to check out!
Speaking of food and coffee…
The Tipping Point Coffee has a lot of variety. Food-wise, the breakfast menu is definitely one to shout about. We’d recommend the Chicken Sausage Biscuit for the early workers who skipped grabbing something at home.

That being said, there’s just something about The Tipping Point Coffee that we just can’t shake. Maybe we’re just blinded by the neon sign located behind the bar? That, or the delicious food menu.
