The Problem

Blyth Star Enterprises needed an easy-to-use website and updated visual identity. Over the years, the organisation's branding had become inconsistent and uncoordinated, and their website was difficult to use and understand. Website engagement and accessibility were a large issue as information was either hard to find or poorly explained, leading to confusion for people using it.

Fundraising is a large part of Blyth Star’s day-to-day operations and overall mission, and they also faced the issue of an outdated donation system. With Blyth Star providing top tier care and support for individuals with complex mental health needs, they wanted to build a comprehensive brand and website that reflected their high standards.

The Solution

To help Blyth Star solidify their brand, we developed a sleek and professional design system that helped to bring their visual assets together. We created guidelines to keep all elements cohesive, including a full brand style, icons, and a new range of brochures and print collateral for users.

Inspired by the diversity of their users we incorporated a block-grid design into the website that uses vibrant colours, reflecting the organisation’s inclusivity and optimism. Their homepage was redesigned to offer a bold and colourful gateway that clearly communicates how they help, and features a layout designed for effortless navigation.

The design system delivers a lively and captivating first impression. It puts the people who embody Blyth Star’s mission front and centre, highlighting their importance.

Building a Strong, Inclusive Brand Identity

To craft a strong and consistent brand identity we built out vibrant colour palettes that are vibrant and full of fun, encompassing Blyth Star’s welcoming nature.

To create a strong identity, we relied on powerful messaging that underpins everything that Blyth Star is about. The aim of this was to make sure the organisation's ethos was front and centre, and we did this by integrating a visual language that was clear and easy to understand.

When it came to the messaging, we let the words speak for themselves. Supported by clean typography and a stripped back palette, we showcased imagery of happy users alongside quotes from people who regularly interact with the charity. This allowed us to highlight the people-focused nature of the organisation.

To further portray this approachability, we focussed on visual imagery and created a bespoke set of icons to visually represent the services that Blyth Star offers. Each icon is simple and distinctive, maintaining clarity and accessibility. These icons are all unique to Blyth Star, and help to enhance communication across all materials.

Due to Blyth Star’s commitment to the community and their focus on real-life interactions, we focussed heavily on print materials, like brochures. As a result, we made sure that all the branding was flexible and could easily be used for both print and website materials.

Building a Digital Experience to Meet the Needs of Users

The new website offers a more up-to-date and functional experience. We started with a full audit of the existing site to highlight any issues. Then we mapped out the journey of users, care professionals, and donors that interact with the brand. This allowed us to create a seamless user journey, serving up the right information at the right time.

Blyth Star’s values are “Somewhere to live, somewhere to work, and someone to care.” To portray these values, we developed materials that were both impactful and accessible, prioritising clarity of information while maintaining an approachable and vibrant aesthetic.

We designed each element of the website with mobile users in mind, boosting accessibility and ease. The responsive design we created adapts perfectly to any screen size, providing an intuitive and consistent user experience for visitors on the go. From streamlined navigation to touch-friendly interactions, we made sure that accessing information, donating, or exploring Blyth Star’s services was a seamless transition from desktop to mobile.

Furthermore, we crafted a straightforward contact form for anyone to use. Keeping it simple, welcoming, and quick to use, it’s designed to connect people directly to the team. To offer an even more seamless approach, our secondary CTA was integrated with third-party plugins, like JustGiving, to streamline the experience.

Through thoughtful design and a focus on accessibility and simplicity, we created a strong identity that empowers Blyth Star Enterprises to continue to transform lives with inclusivity, compassion, and care.

Kind words from our client

Don't just take our word for it.

Blyth Star

“The time and effort that the team at Canny put into getting to know and understand Blyth Star really shows in the end products that they delivered. They took our organisation, in all its complexity, and translated it so beautifully into a look and feel which is representative of who we are and what we do, but in such a way that makes it accessible to all. We were truly blown away.”
